Pints of View
Monday 19 November, 8pm, The Plough, Belsize
Following on from last month, when different systems of taxation were discussed, we’ll be considering the concept of a universal basic income (UBI) at our November get-together. With UBI, all adults, whether in work or not, would receive a sum from the state to cover the basic cost of living, no matter who they are or what they do. Advocates of UBI suggest such a scheme would remove poverty, lessen inequality and provide financial stability when work is insecure. Bob Shearer will lead our discussion considering UBI’s advantages and disadvantages. Would UBI be pie in the sky or pie for all? Pints of View provides a forum in which we can consider topical matters, aspects of faith, moral issues and dilemmas in informal surroundings over a pint of beer, a coffee or soft drink (we have a ‘buy your own drinks’ policy).
Come and join us on the 19th. Everyone is welcome.
