How cloth and yarn were coloured and how the different colours represent power, achievement and desire.”
Our Society’s February Lecture moves away from strictly artistic matters and will interest anyone who is fascinated by the history of clothes and fashion. We will explore the fascinating story of how dyes were discovered, made and used. It focuses on the social implications of colour at different eras and across the world. It is a story of exploration, imitation, war, the Church, money, power and sex.
You are welcome to attend this different and relevant talk.
There is no-one better equipped to steer us through this story than Susan Kay-Williams. She is an international lecturer and has published a book on colour in textiles.
