On April 12th , 7.30pm at The Junction, WD3 5SG, we invite you to a fascinating and compelling evening exploring a soldier’s role in one of the most talked about military campaigns. A Captain in the 29 Commando regiment, Johnny Mercer served in the army for twelve years until one morning during his third tour in Afghanistan in brutal close quarter combat, everything changed . . .
In ‘We Were Warriors’ Johnny takes us from his commando training to the heat, blood and chaos of battle. Action-packed, laced with wry humour and written with brutal honesty, Johnny describes what it is like to risk your life every day, pushing through the fear that follows watching your friends die. Back in the UK, seeing the inadequate care available for veterans and their families, he was inspired to run for Parliament in the hope he could improve their plight. Johnny Mercer is currently the Conservative MP for Plymouth Moor View so I’m sure there will be a lively discussion of the book and his time in government throughout the evening.
Event book voucher £8.00, book ‘ We Were Warriors: One Soldier’s Story of Brutal Combat’ will be £8.99 on the night.
