Our November film is a warm British comedy drama……
A fast-living but lonely London music executive (Danny Mays) heads to Port Isaac in Cornwall on a stag weekend where he unexpectedly finds himself trying to sign a group of shanty singing fishermen led by James Purefoy. He becomes a ‘fish out of water’ as he struggles to gain the respect and enthusiasm of the unlikely stars and their families (including Tuppence Middleton) who value friendship and community over fame and fortune. As he’s drawn deeper into the traditional way of life, finding both friendship and love, he’s forced to re-evaluate his own integrity and ultimately question what success really means.
The film, released in March 2019, is inspired by the true story of the Fisherman’s Friends, an all-male acapella folk singing group from Port Isaac in Cornwall who have become an unexpected hit for their authentic sea shanties.
Now, I suppose we should have fish for Supper at Seven, but in fact we are having assorted vegetarian curries!
Hope to see you there,
