Part-time Clerk & Responsible Financial Officer
Sarratt Parish Council, Hertfordshire

Sarratt Parish is a large rural parish within the Three Rivers District. It comprises of around 800 households located in the main Village of Sarratt and surrounding hamlets. There are also a number of small businesses, farms and equestrian centres within its boundaries. Much of the geography is classified as green belt, and also includes an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty along the River Chess Valley.

The Parish Council is seeking to recruit a part-time Clerk (20 hours per week) from September. The Clerk will also be the Responsible Financial Officer. The position has a salary in the region of £13,750 per annum. (LC3 18 – 23)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supporting the monthly Council meetings with the preparation of agendas, minutes and other papers. Provision of other administrative support to the Council and Parish Office.
  • Managing all financial aspects of the Council from the annual budget and accounts, to maintaining the asset register, processing the annual grant applications and the monthly payment of contractor invoices
  • Maintaining the Council policy documents ensuring these are kept up to date and advising Council on matters of policy
  • Liaising with Three Rivers District Council, Herts County Council, Hertfordshire Association of Parish and Town Councils, and contractors on a wide range of topics including planning, highways and the environment

Applicants should possess excellent communication, organisation, administrative and IT skills. Applicants should also be able to demonstrate initiative, judgement, teamwork, a customer orientated mindset and be comfortable working on their own with minimum supervision.

Parish Clerk qualifications are desirable, but not essential.
